The Max Planck Center for Attosecond Science (MPC-AS) established jointly by the Max Planck POSTECH/Korea Research Initiative(MPK) and the Max Planck Society (MPG), Germany, is seeking an outstanding candidate for leading a theoretical Junior Research Group (JRG) in femto-to-atto-second-scale ultrafast science.

Centered around its base at the Center for Attosecond Science & Technology(CASTECH), POSTECH, Pohang, Korea and in close collaboration with the Max Planck Inst. of Quantum Optics (MPQ), Garching, Germany, 4 Departments from different Max Planck Institutes led by Prof. Krausz, Prof. Cavalleri, Prof. Wolf, and Prof. Rost participate in the MPC-AS together with 5 Asian groups from Beijing, Brisbane, Pohang, Shanghai and Tokyo to foster attosecond science.

The JRG group will be mainly based at either MPQ, Garching, Germany or the Max Planck Inst. for the Physics of Complex Systems, Dresden, Germany with the obligatory research stays of at least three months a year at the CASTECH in Pohang, Korea.

This search is focused on the area of theory and/or high level simulation aiming at a deeper understanding of ultrafast electron phenomena unfolding on femtosecond to attosecond time scales. Candidates who have interdisciplinary interests in addressing physical/chemical aspects of ultrafast electron / nuclear dynamics, coherent control of quantum dynamics in physical, chemical, biological, nano-structured systems are encouraged to apply.

Besides pursuing its own research goals, the theory JRG group is expected to establish collaborations with the experimental groups participating in MPC-AS. In Pohang, the group will also have the opportunity for scientific interaction with Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP; http://www.apctp.org/index_eng.html ).

We offer this position for up to 5 years on a salary which corresponds to an exceptional Assistant Professor and on an extra funding for hiring Post-docs and graduate students to form a group. Applications should include a CV, a list of publications, copies of three publications, a one-page summary of scientific achievements, and a two-page research plan. Two letters of recommendation should be sent separately by the application deadline. Application deadline is June 30 (Mon.), 2014. All documents or inquiry should be sent to Prof. Dong Eon Kim. For further information please contact Prof Kim (email), Dr. Goulielmakis (email) or Prof. Rost (rost at pks.mpg.de).

The interviews for selected candidates will take place at MPQ, Garching, on July 23, 2014.
